Squad

This page gives a brief description of each of the members of YCFC's squad, including past clubs and history at the club.

Lee Nogan (Coach/Centre-Forward)

noggy.jpg

Lee Nogan is a well-travelled forward who has been affectionately named 'Noggy' by the City fans. After the dismissal of Terry Dolan's number 2 Adie Shaw, Lee took his first steps into management by becoming new boss Chris Brass's assistant. Nogan's many former clubs include Grimsby and Darlington, from whom he was released when City signed him around two years ago. He has played over 500 games in the English football league, along with over 100 goals to his credit, and has been capped by Wales at full international level twice, in 1992 and 1995. Though his goalscoring touch seemed to have lost him at times last season, his workrate could never be faulted, and he may use his many footballing connections to assist City's recruitment task over the summer.

Chris Brass (Manager/Centre-Back)

Chris Brass, or 'Brassy' as he is known to the City faithful, is the club's committed captain who leads by example. He can operate as a central midfielder, but appears most comfortable at the heart of the defence. His never-say-die attitude has won him the respect of the fans at Bootham Crescent. He spent his earlier playing years at Turf Moor, where he failed to establish himself as a first-team regular at Burnley, and he moved to City about three years ago. Brass has now taken over the reigns as the club's player-manager, and as a result is expected to hand over his captain's armband to an existing squad member or a new signing.

Darren Edmondson (Right-Back)

edmo.jpg

Darren Edmondson, also known as 'Edmo', is one of the first names on Terry Dolan's team-sheet. The experienced full-back is always a composed figure at the back, and recently has proved his prowess in the attacking half. After going 100 games for City without a goal, Edmo scored two crackers in two games at the turn of the year, and scored another three later in the season including a spectacular 35-yard volley at Bristol Rovers. Darren spent the majority of his career at Huddersfield before moving to City shortly after Dolan took over.

Scott Jones (Centre-Back)

Scott Jones, whose nickname 'Jonesy' comes as no surprise, has become a regular first-team member in the 2002/03 season after signing a full-time contract with the club following a loan spell the previous season. He is an excellent man-marker and can always be relied upon for a solid display at centre-back, though he can play on the left if necessary. Scott's former clubs include fellow Division Three side Bristol Rovers.

Richard Cooper (Right/Central Midfield)

Richard 'Coops' Cooper was last season converted from playing in a right-back role to playing in a midfield position, and did so successfully. He is a tenacious, battling player who makes up for his lack of height by chasing lost causes and giving the side options on the right wing. Signed from Nottingham Forest a couple of years ago after coming to City on loan, Richard made his comeback from a lengthy injury known by coming off the bench and scoring a dramatic late equaliser against Lincoln in December, and was virtually ever-present after that.

Lee Bullock (Central Midfield)

Lee Bullock, whose nicknames include 'Bully' and 'LeeBo', is one of the most exciting talents to have come out of the YCFC youth system in several years. Having made the step up to first-team player four years ago, Lee has consistently shown his ability as both an attacking midfielder and a holding midfielder, and at 21 is likely to improve further. A fixture in the side last season, Bullock also chipped in with seven goals, including a spectacular late winner in a thrilling 3-2 victory over Leyton Orient.

Leigh Wood (Central Midfield)

Another product of City's youth set-up, Leigh Wood, or 'Woody', has impressed in the few chances he has got in the first-team after being promoted to a full-time contract. Leigh has a good reading of the game, is a good passer of the ball and proved his ability going forward when he was unlucky to strike the post late on in last season's 1-1 draw with Bury. Definitely one for the future, Leigh will surely only get better with time.

Stephen Brackstone (Central Midfield)

Stephen Brackstone, alternatively known as 'Bracky', was brought to City after progressing through the youth ranks at Middlesbrough, and featured heavily in the 2002/03 campaign. At times he showed promise with good control and incisive passing, but on other occasions he tended to disappear from games, and will have to act more determined to pin down a regular place in Dolan's line-up.

Jonathan Parkin (Centre-Forward)

Jon Parkin is affectionately known as 'Jonny P' amongst the City faithful, with whom he has become a popular figure since signing from Barnsley after a period on loan a year ago. Originally signed as a powerful centre-back, Jon's aerial prowess made Terry Dolan convert him into a striking role, where despite at times appearing to have a clumsy touch, he helped himself to 10 goals, making him City's top scorer behind Peter Duffield, who departed to Boston in January of 2003.

Youth Team Players

David Stockdale (Goalkeeper)
A promising young keeper who made his debut in the last match of the 2002/03 season at Oxford.

Stuart Wise (Centre-back)
A centre-back who featured in spurts last season, and looks set to be offered a permanent contract for next season.

Levent Yalcin (Centre-forward)
Despite being born in England, this quick young striker qualifies to represent Turkey nationally, and may soon get his chance to impress.

Bryan Stewart (Centre-forward)
Bryan was crowned Young Player Of The Year for 2002/03, and as a result might well feature more prominently soon.

Adam Arthur (Centre-forward)
A small striker whose pace and ball control make him a force to be reckoned with, Adam looked sharp turning out for the reserves last year.
